What is the procedure for sagging breasts?

Sagging breasts, or “breast ptosis”, can be classified into three degrees depending on the position of the nipple in relation to the fold under the breast.

The nipple of an ideal breast is located 7 cm above the fold of the breast.

      • In the case of a mild ptosis (type I), the nipple is at the level of the breast fold, therefore lower than ideal. This type of sagging requires a rather limited procedure. Dr. Fanous will make an incision around the areola (nipple) to move the nipple slightly upward on the breast.
      • For a moderate ptosis (type II), when the nipple is a little lower than the breast fold, Dr. Fanous will make a first incision around the nipple, then continue with a second vertical incision that extends from the nipple to the breast fold, or almost.
      • For a breast presenting severe ptosis (type III) and having a nipple that is turned completely downwards, a third incision is required. During this big lift called “complete mastopexy”, a third horizontal incision is performed in the breast fold, in addition to the circular incision (around the nipple) and the vertical one (between the nipple and the breast fold).

What is the duration of a breast lift surgery “mastopexy”?

The duration of the cosmetic surgery of breast lift performed by Dr. Fanous is generally 3 hours.
This cosmetic breast surgery takes place in our certified and modern surgical center in Montreal.

    Is it painful?

Dr. Fanous ensures that the breast lift takes place without pain. In general, you will have very little pain and discomfort during the postoperative period.

    Frequently asked question

    • Will I have to be put to sleep under general anesthesia?

      No.
Dr. Fanous uses local anesthesia with sedation. This type of anesthesia is very appreciated by the vast majority of our patients undergoing a mastopexy performed by Dr. Fanous at our surgery clinic in Montreal.

    • Is it possible to get a breast lift at the same time as my breast augmentation surgery?

Thanks to his extensive experience in the field of cosmetic surgery of the breast, Dr. Fanous is able to combine the breast lift with a breast augmentation in one surgery session.

This combination is advantageous because the patient undergoes one surgical experience rather than two and a single recovery rather than two.

Also, the cost of two surgeries combined is less than the two performed separately.

    • What is the recovery time?

The recovery varies from one person to another, but you should be able to perform your daily activities one to two weeks after your surgery.

Your scars may remain red for about 1-2 years.

    • When can I go back to work?

Usually, you will be able to return to work two weeks after the breast lift.

    • Are there possible complications associated with the breast lift surgery?

Complications associated with the breast lift ‘mastopexy’ are possible but their percentage is low. They include: bleeding, infections, marked scarring (keloids), sensation changes, skin necrosis, pain, numbness, asymmetry, etc.
